being a fashionable clearance shopper

Ahhhhhhh I’m so excited to share more about my love for fashion on the blog.

Fashion just got added as a new category + you’re going to love seeing what + how I purchase items for the low low.

I went to school and studied fashion merchandising and then I couldn’t land a job in the fashion industry because EVERYONE said I needed more experience.

I took my talents elsewhere and never looked back. When I was working at a company called Southwire, I knew I had no future there but it was helping me pay the bills so I stayed. At work, I had to wear jeans and a nice top with steel toe work boots and don’t forget my safety glasses with those gaudy orange ear plugs. I learned so much about my professional self punching in the clock at a company that I had no desire to be for an extended period of time. I came to the conclusion of a few different things:

  1. A 9-5 desk office job wouldn’t be good for someone like myself
  2. I needed more freedom with the company dress code
  3. My ability to adapt + learn new systems (way of doing things) would always help me advance as a professional
  4. Thick skin is sometimes needed in the workplace (especially male-dominant ones)
  5. I missed being fashionable + cute on the regular

So when I got my first big girl job working in Higher Ed as an Admissions Counselor, I couldn’t wait to go shopping. I knew I needed new professional pieces. It was important to me that I would always feel confident enough to present in front of any audience at any time.

Except after my first couple of entry level checks, I realized that my shopping budget would need to be cut in more than half.

I knew that I couldn’t keep wearing the same ole pieces because I was going to be around so many of the same people on a consistent basis. I needed a mixture of pieces so I could creatively switch up my look.

I needed options.

On my salary at the time, I could only afford to shop clearance. I’ve been doing so now for the last 6 years even though I can afford to now pay full price if I choose.

I just don’t want to. Shopping clearance helps me save money + purchase more pieces when I do go shopping.

It’s like I’m in a competition with myself to see how many pieces I can add to the collection under whatever budget I give myself for shopping that month.

Travel down memory lane with me to my first big girl job:

Make a fashion statement moving forward by owning what you wear. I own being a fashionable clearance shopper.

I’m inspired to share this because I know the struggle of wanting to look good + not overspend.

Spend how you see fit. Just don’t spend to please others. And don’t spend to grow your wardrobe without cleaning out your closet first.

always be inspired to give away something. you can sell some things too but I always think about how much more beneficial it is for someone to be able to wear quality pieces that they typically wouldn’t have been able to afford.

that inspires me more than anything else.
