my last year in these 20 somethings.

I’ve grown so much and I’ve actually fallen in love with the process of becoming.

becoming more…

more of who God created me to be. more inspirational. more kind. more transparent. more visible. more of what the world needs.

J U S T M O R E.

it’s such a blessing to be in this space ready to give more and receive more.

I don’t want to dismiss what is currently going in the world. This world is still full of hate and fear.

People are hurting. Black people are dying at the hands of police officers or in 2020 by their knees. This is a problem. Police brutality has been a major problem in America. This is why my mind runs rampant when a cop pulls up behind me. There’s an immediate uneasy feeling because I think back to what has happened to so many others who look just like me after they were pulled over.

My blackness is being tolerated not respected. My blackness is being feared. My blackness is being targeted. My blackness is only seen when another hashtag is created.

I’m slightly overwhelmed + full of frustration at times that [even after George Floyd] some people refuse to see the issues within the system that require us to remind the world of the Black Lives Matter movement.

DYK: 94 days ago Breonna Taylor was murdered in her own home by police officers who have yet to be charged. NINETY-FOUR !

think about how crazy that sounds. think about how much more hurt her family is experiencing. think about it.

I like so many others am actually tired of hearing about change + not seeing it.

My heart has been set on channeling my energy into educating myself + educating others. It’s so hard to be positive while being angry at times. So I’ve had to be more committed to guarding my heart and mind about how much I expose myself to each day. A daily struggle but I refuse to tune out completely.

I have personally labeled 2020 as the year of [exposure + accountability].

I just recently turned 29 and I wanted to share my thoughts in the best way I know how to do so.

And that’s through writing. Writing holds me accountable to continue living out my truth.

  1. God still thinks the world of people who don’t look like you
  2. Giving people multiple chances can do more harm than good
  3. You have to take yourself more serious before anyone else will
  4. People will always blame you for using the scissors that they handed to you
  5. It’s normal to highlight the success of others without attempting to gain anything in return
  6. Loving yourself requires you to refrain from deeming it necessary to respond to everything
  7. Success is a never-ending journey of you dusting yourself off and trying again
  8. Each day presents you with the opportunity to embrace new beginnings
  9. Pleasing people who are unsure of themselves always leads to a dead end
  10. Extending grace to others is YOU being the bigger person
  11. Never stop being kind because of the “one” who viewed it as a sign of weakness
  12. Sometimes there’s more purpose in receiving a no
  13. Growth on any level is going to require you to mind the business that pays you
  14. Inspiring others creates room for you to see how encouraging it is to be reminded that you’re not alone
  15. Money will find you when you’re operating with purpose and obedience
  16. Living by faith and not by competition is #goals
  17. Pouring from an empty cup should never make your to-do list
  18. Celebrate all of your wins even if that means doing it by yourself
  19. Sharing snippets of your life is optional not required
  20. Never let someone else drive you back to a place that drains you mentally
  21. Keep going after what you’re most passionate about
  22. You owe it to yourself to always invest in you
  23. Be humble or you will fumble
  24. Crossing the finish line is a big deal on any level
  25. Where you desire to go is connected to how you see yourself in the mirror
  26. There’s levels to all of it, but there’s also google
  27. Starting over means that you’re moving forward with clarity
  28. Life was created for you to live it with boldness and authenticity
  29. To be black in America pondering “AM I NEXT?”

Hope this inspires you to not judge how someone thinks + to be willing to embrace their truth with understanding

understanding that we’re all on a journey…

the journey of becoming…

Becoming more + more at peace with the pieces that we’ve been given to create change within ourselves + our circle of friends + within our community + the places that we call home.
