Happy New Year! Many people are making plans to start fresh and tackle new opportunities. I’ll be moving soon and started writing down all the many things that I need to consider before I move out at the end of the month. Moving can be a stressful time if you’re unprepared.
So let’s become more task oriented in 2022 and plan out things beforehand. In order to save time and money, here’s a few reminders that come to mind. I made this list and thought it was important to share the following
- Licensed & Professional Moving Company
There’s nothing like movers who show up on time and make sure that the job is done right the first time around. Customer service starts from the time you call to schedule the appointment. My best advice is to ask about their certification and license during your initial call to the company. If you’re not feeling confident in their responses, then I wouldn’t recommend for you to follow through on booking with them. Check online reviews and their website to read about their best work. You just want to make sure that the company will be following the storage laws for the state that you reside in.
Ask the professional questions. No question is a stupid one when you’re having to pay $$$. Look at moving as an investment into your future. You only want to work with the best and with those who are going to make things easier on you in the process.
Pack up as much as you can in one room. This is beneficial for many reasons but the main one is that it leaves plenty of room for you to clean up the other spaces entirely. It’s also quicker for the movers to be able to grab and go during the move. The closer to the door, the better.
Create a Budget
Expect the unexpected. Be sure to add a little to each line item Ito ensure that you move within your means. Most people go into moving blind-sighted because it’s so easy to forget how expensive moving can become if you don’t have a budget set in the beginning. Here’s a list of things to consider that may cost you:
- Mover Rate
- Storage Fees
- Cleaning Supplies
- Moving Boxes/Bins (Walmart will give you boxes for free if you ask. It’s best to go on the day after shipment arrives.)
Throw Away Old Stuff
The last thing that you want to do is to waste time packing up items that you no longer need or haven’t used in awhile. Moving is the best time for you to downsize. This permits for you to not need as many boxes and saves you time on the backend since most moving companies charge by the hour.
It’s best to move out of one room at a time so that you can organize items classified by location. Label each box and also make it easier on yourself and add if it’s going to the “new place” with you or into “storage”.
Please look for items that can be donated to the goodwill or to your local homeless shelter. At the beginning of year, you’d be shocked of the amount of people who are going through a tough time and are in desperate need of those willing to donate household items/lightly used clothing/etc.
Leave on Good Terms
For most people, this is easier said than done. It’s important that you prepare to leave on good terms. Clean up behind yourself after the movers pack up everything for you. Follow move-out instructions in your lease and leave keys in the appropriate designated place. Make sure that you try to schedule a walk through with the apartment complex/landlord so that you can ensure that no prior damages will be charged to you by accident.
Also, here’s a bonus point: Don’t forget to notify your mail carrier in advance about the move. The worse is having mail go to an old address and having to track it down later.
If you feel comfortable doing so, be prepared to share your new address. For two reasons:
1. If any mail comes after you change your address with your mail carrier.
2. Your deposit can be mailed to you in a timely manner.
A company that I’d recommend in the Ohio area is called Bearded Brothers Moving Group, LLC. If you’re looking for efficiency, professionalism, and quality wrapped into one, then they’re the right ones for the job. They look forward to assisting you with the move whether it be a small job or a larger one. Even though they are closed on Sunday, their trucks operate 7 days a week. This company is customer focused and the foundation of their business places heavy emphasis on the customer. Another service they provide is pool table moving, check out this link for more details and coupons: pool table moving in Youngstown, OH!
