So as a college recruiter, I’m constantly having to discuss information pertaining to admission requirements, scholarship deadlines, and the application process. i find myself repeating information on the daily, so I sometimes create shortcuts. A young lady asked me about tuition per semester, and I stated 3887. I watched her write on a piece of paper $38.87 and I paused and thought I wasn’t very clear because I meant $3,887.
As I corrected her, it made me think how we go through life assuming that people understand life from our viewpoints. Also, how shortcuts can’t be used when you’re attempting to state facts. Technology makes it easy to talk the way that you would text someone, but how many text are misconstrued because the sender wasn’t Specific in the message that they were sending?
So being Specific is the key to unlock misunderstandings…???
In your friendships: Let it be known up front your limits. Don’t desire to be liked to the point that you lose sight of who you are. The circle that you keep says a lot about your individual character, and you shouldn’t grant anyone the opportunity to slander your name. So many of us are holding onto friendships right now that are detrimental because we’re afraid of being too Specific. Let it go, you’re only hurting yourself.
In your relationships: Stand firm in your beliefs and don’t go in with the mindset that you can impose those on your significant other. Relationships all over the world right now have people in an unhappy state because they weren’t Specific enough in the beginning. A relationship should embrace the uniqueness of two individuals seeking commitment (marriage) becoming as ONE.
In your prayers: God knows the beginning, the middle, and the end. You can’t expect God to grant you the desires of your heart when you haven’t even followed through with HIS last assignment. Procrastination leaves room for disorder, God is not a God of disorder or a God of confusion. Be Specific in your prayers and when giving thanks. Instead of reaping the benefits from what God has already blessed you with, you’re too busy comparing your blessings to others. Praise for the small blessings so that your gracious and humble spirit will appreciate the big blessings.
May you find peace this week in being Specific in all aspects of your life in hopes that you can create clarity and understanding within your surroundings.
